> US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth plans to cut military positions reserved for generals and admirals by 20 percent by January 1, 2027, affecting about 800 one- to four-star posts. He says the move is needed to reduce bureaucracy and change military culture, while analysts warn it could sideline experienced commanders, discourage dissent and favor officers loyal to Donald Trump.
