> US journalist Evan Gershkovich tells the BBC’s Today programme about the 16 months he spent detained in Russia. He said masked men surrounding him at a restaurant in March 2023 made him realise he had been “lured into a trap”. He was later sentenced to 16 years on espionage charges, then released in a 2024 prisoner exchange. Gershkovich and the Wall Street Journal have maintained that the charges were false.
