> Indirect US-Iran talks mediated by Qatar continue on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, with both sides seeking a diplomatic settlement to the seven-month war but disagreeing over the agenda. Iran has proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz within seven days in exchange for ending the US naval blockade, sanctions relief, frozen-asset releases and a broader ceasefire. Washington instead wants one agreement addressing all outstanding issues, especially Iran’s nuclear programme.
