> A gunman allegedly targeted the Jewish community outside the Sons of Jacob Synagogue in Belleville, Ontario, during Yom Kippur. Constable Jeff Smith was shot repeatedly but returned fire; suspect Sean Ward later died in hospital. Worshipers inside were unharmed. B’nai Brith Canada says the incident shows Jewish institutions need a legal way to hire trained armed guards.
