> Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s conservative government has approved a decree banning burqas and niqabs in schools while limiting the number of pupils with poor Italian-language skills in each classroom. The rules take effect immediately but need parliamentary approval within 60 days. Critics call the measure discriminatory and accuse the government of politicising immigration.
