> As Chinese President Xi Jinping arrives in Washington for a highly anticipated summit with US President Donald Trump, China appears to have emerged stronger from the tariff shock. Its exports rose 25% last month on an annualised basis, lifting the trade surplus to $119 billion and putting it on course to surpass last year’s record $1.2 trillion. The surplus with the US climbed 44% to $29 billion, its widest gap since Trump returned to office.
