> A senior Iranian official says Tehran and Washington remain far apart over how to end their war, but diplomacy is continuing. The two sides held their first known indirect exchange since the July ceasefire collapsed, with Iran seeking an end to the US naval blockade on its ports and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. President Masoud Pezeshkian also demanded access to shipping through the waterway in his UN address.
