# Lavrov, Lebanese prime minister discuss Middle East developments

> Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam that fighting in Lebanon must end during their meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. Moscow reaffirmed its support for Lebanon’s unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty, and called for conditions for a political and diplomatic settlement under UN Security Council Resolution 1701. They also discussed preserving a UN presence as the mandate of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon nears expiration.
