> Former Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer and ex-state secretary Gerhard Schulz are on trial in Berlin, accused of lying to a parliamentary committee about contracts for a failed foreign-motorist toll scheme. Both deny the charges. The case is expected to run for 12 days. Germany’s cherry and pear growers, meanwhile, report their best harvest in years.
