> The Yangtze finless porpoise population has reached 1,426, up 177 from the 2022 survey. The increase is attributed to the Yangtze River’s 10-year fishing ban, which began on Jan. 1, 2021. The nationally first-class protected species is considered a barometer of the river’s ecological health.
