> Protests have spread across Syrian cities after the government raised diesel prices by up to 40 percent and petrol prices by 28 percent. Demonstrators burned tyres and blocked a major highway, with rallies reported in Hama, Khan Sheikhoun and Maarat al-Numan. Officials attributed the increases to higher fuel costs and work at the Baniyas refinery.
