> BRIC was formalized in 2006 by Brazil, Russia, India and China, later becoming BRICS after South Africa joined. The bloc expanded substantially in 2024 and 2025; India says it now represents 49.5% of the world’s population, 40% of global GDP and 26% of global trade. The 2026 summit is scheduled for September 12-13.
