# EU falls behind on plan to wean itself off Russian oil and gas

> The European Court of Auditors says the EU’s REPowerEU program has fallen short of its goal of reducing dependence on Russian oil and gas. Member states have spent just €54.3 billion of the €300 billion available. Auditors attributed the drop in Russian energy imports mainly to mild winters and high prices, while warning that some countries continue to buy Russian energy. A full EU ban on Russian LNG imports is due in January 2027.
