# Russian diplomat notes EU’s cynical attempt to present itself as a ‘force for good’

> Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said human rights conditions in the EU and its member states are steadily worsening as intolerance, racism and hate speech grow. Against that backdrop, she called Brussels’ effort to portray itself as a global “force for good” particularly cynical. She also accused European institutions of ignoring or condoning Russophobia, statelessness in the Baltics and restrictions on Russian-speaking residents’ right to education in their native language.
