> Preliminary official results show the Alternative for Germany won Saxony-Anhalt’s election decisively with 43.8%, its strongest-ever performance in a German state election. The CDU placed second with 17.2%, its worst result in the state. Government formation is highly complicated because parties reject cooperation with the AfD, while the AfD narrowly missed an outright majority.
