# Russian commander shot days after being linked to Kyiv children's hospital strike

> Russian media reported that a military commander was shot twice by an unknown attacker near Engels in Saratov Oblast on Sept. 3 and hospitalized in critical condition. Russian Telegram channels identified him as Maj. Gen. Nikolay Varpakhovich, whom Ukraine's Security Service recently accused of ordering the 2024 missile strike on Kyiv's Okhmatdyt children's hospital.
