> Chinese rescuers reopened the G216 national highway to Gyirong Port on Wednesday, allowing heavy equipment into the mudslide’s core zone to search for people still missing. The August 26 disaster, triggered by an ice-rock avalanche in Nepal, left 16 dead and 546 unaccounted for. Difficult terrain and weather have hampered efforts, while communications, medical care and temporary settlements are being reinforced.
