> The Chinese mainland criticized Taiwan authorities on Wednesday over a proposed record defense budget, which is expected to exceed $30 billion for the first time. Zhang Han, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, accused the Lai Ching-te administration of stirring cross-Strait confrontation and wasting people’s money, and urged Taiwan residents to oppose the move and protect peace and security.
