# Why China will not comply with US sanctions on Iran

> China is unlikely to comply with US sanctions on Iran because Beijing can withstand the pressure and sees little benefit in doing so. It buys most of Iran’s oil exports while using dark fleets, small refineries and non-dollar transactions to evade restrictions. China also fears that an Iranian defeat would reduce its influence in the Middle East and threaten its energy interests.
