> A source close to the Kremlin told the investigative outlet Agentstvo that CIA Director John Ratcliffe urged Russian officials during his secret August 25 Moscow visit to reach a deal ending the war in Ukraine soon, citing worsening military and economic conditions. Vladimir Putin had planned to meet Ratcliffe but canceled after learning the purpose of the trip. Ratcliffe instead met Russian intelligence chiefs, while it remains unclear whether his position reflected the broader White House view.
