> Europe’s average gas price rose to $744 per 1,000 cubic meters in August, its highest August level since late 2022, as inventories ahead of winter fell to record lows and the Middle East conflict continued. Futures closed at about $840 at month-end, up 18.5% from July 31. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz intensified competition with Asia for LNG supplies.
