> The AfD in Saxony-Anhalt is escalating its confrontation with Germany’s Catholic and Protestant churches ahead of the September 6 state election. Churches have displayed banners urging conscious voting, diversity and solidarity, while the party proposes ending state payments and church tax collection and penalizing churches over asylum cases. The AfD’s state branch has been classified as a confirmed right-wing extremist organization.
