> Niger’s military-led government says it has contained a mutiny that began at a base in Niamey and spread toward the state broadcaster and presidential palace after hours of gunfire and explosions. Dozens of soldiers were reportedly killed or arrested. Russia’s ambassador said the Kremlin-backed Africa Corps was asked to help neutralise the mutineers, while the mutiny’s leadership and Niger’s military ruler Abdourahamane Tchiani’s whereabouts remained unclear.
