# Exclusive: Swedish EU letter reopens debate over frozen Russian assets

> Sweden is urging the EU to resume discussions on using Russian financial assets frozen within the bloc to directly support Ukraine. A draft letter co-signed by the foreign ministers of Sweden, the Netherlands, Poland and Spain asks EU foreign ministers to begin discussing the issue at an informal meeting in Ireland on Sept. 1-2, while acknowledging legal and financial risks and Belgium’s concerns.
