> Israel’s plan to advance settlement construction in the E1 area of the occupied West Bank has drawn widespread international criticism. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas urged Israel to cancel the tender, warning that the expansion would divide the West Bank and undermine prospects for Palestinian statehood. Seven countries called for the plan to be withdrawn, while the EU considers possible measures. The UN also reported rising settler violence and Israeli use of live ammunition in the West Bank.
