> The UK Met Office says this year’s El Niño could be the strongest in more than a century, with tropical Pacific sea-surface temperatures forecast to rise by more than 3C in coming months. The event would raise risks of drought, heat, heavy rain and other extremes, and is very likely to help make 2027 the hottest year on record globally.
