# Syria detains policeman over death of White Helmets rescuer hit in custody

> Syria has detained police investigator Ahmad Jawad and referred him to the public prosecutor after an inquiry found he slapped Mohammad Ghamira, a 29-year-old White Helmets volunteer with haemophilia. Ghamira died after his release, with investigators saying the blow may have caused a brain haemorrhage. Two other officers are being investigated.
