> A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said China strongly deplores Japan’s moves related to the Yasukuni war shrine around the 81st anniversary of Japan’s unconditional surrender in World War II and has lodged serious protests. The spokesperson called the shrine a symbol of militarism and urged Japan to reflect on its history of aggression, break with militarism and rebuild trust through concrete actions.
