> Zambians voted in large numbers in a generally peaceful general election. Incumbent President Hakainde Hichilema, seeking a second term against 12 other candidates, urged calm and cooperation after voting in Lusaka. Polling stations mostly closed at 6:00 p.m., with counting starting that night and presidential results expected by Monday. A candidate needs over 50 percent to avoid a runoff.
