> Power outages struck Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan simultaneously on August 14. Officials in Almaty blamed an accident involving overhead power lines, while authorities elsewhere said the cause was not yet known. Kazakhstan began restoring power, and Uzbekistan attributed its disruption to an accident in a neighboring country’s grid.
