> Anthony Albanese has rejected demands that he apologise to Japan’s prime minister, Sanae Takaichi, over remarks about melons. The Australian leader appeared to joke about a melon gift during a satirical podcast last month. His comments have prompted a media frenzy and accusations of sexual innuendo. Government MPs have defended Albanese as criticism grew, while the Coalition opposition described the remarks as “grubby”. Assistant minister Pat Gorman questioned why the issue was still being discussed.
