> A record 230 people reached the United Kingdom on one boat after crossing the English Channel. The government accused people smugglers of cramming migrants onto vessels it described as unseaworthy. It said the practice puts lives at risk. The account centres on the unusually large number of people making the crossing in a single vessel.
