# Rome scrambles to house hundreds after squat eviction amid heatwave

Talks to preserve Italy’s most prominent housing and social assistance centre have collapsed amid Giorgia Meloni’s government crackdown on occupied buildings. About 400 residents of Spin Time Labs were evicted at the end of last month. They will not be permitted to return to the ten-storey building in Esquilino after its private owner rejected the city council’s offer to purchase the property.
