> Colombia’s president-elect Abelardo de la Espriella is taking office on August 8 with a pledge to wage war on drug gangs and move closer to the United States. The former lawyer won June’s runoff by less than one percentage point. He is described as a right-wing populist resembling El Salvador’s Nayib Bukele and Argentina’s Javier Milei. His swearing-in is set to take place at an unusual location.
