> President Isaac Herzog said he would task Yashar leader Gadi Eisenkot with forming Israel’s next government, inviting him to formally receive the mandate on Sunday. Eisenkot has the backing of 67 lawmakers but faces difficulty securing a 61-seat majority. Benjamin Netanyahu called for a national unity government and opposed one reliant on Arab-party support.
