> Paul Mackenzie, a Kenyan cult leader, received a 200-year sentence over the deaths of 190 children whom prosecutors say were starved on his orders. They said he urged followers to fast to reach heaven before the apocalypse; some victims were beaten, buried alive or dumped in latrines. Twenty-eight accomplices were also jailed. The case has raised serious questions about authorities' failure to heed warnings dating to 2017. The wider investigation has confirmed 448 bodies and identified around 500 suspected victims.
