> Democrat James Talarico defeated Republican Ken Paxton in Texas, marking the first Democratic win in a US Senate race there since 1988. The upset helped Democrats secure control of Congress. A political science professor called the party’s Texas gains a “bloodbath”; Republican Governor Greg Abbott also lost his race that day.
