> Tehran’s Rafi-Nia synagogue was destroyed in an Israeli air strike on April 7. Before the attack, it represented one of the Middle East’s largest Jewish communities outside Israel. A worshipper and an expert who both knew the community well said the prominent synagogue meant much more than a place for religious services. It was also closely tied to the life of a vibrant local Jewish community. The strike reduced the historic building to rubble.
