> The UN Transitional Assistance Mission in Somalia officially ceased operations on Saturday after a two-year transition transferred its responsibilities to Somali institutions and other UN bodies. The closure has prompted concern over the lack of an agreed mechanism to mediate political disputes, although the UN continues its work in Somalia through other agencies and programs.
