> The State Department accused South Africa and some of its politicians of endangering people’s lives after two attacks on White farmers believed to be Afrikaners near Johannesburg. A 50-year-old man was reportedly tortured, while a 55-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death. Opposition figures condemned the attacks and called for stronger police investigations; public figures have not alleged that they were racially motivated.
