> The UN Transitional Assistance Mission in Somalia ended operations on Saturday after a two-year transition requested by the Somali government. Its responsibilities were transferred to Somali institutions and UN bodies. The closure comes amid deep political divisions, continuing violence and shrinking international support; the mission’s past involvement in domestic politics had drawn accusations of interference.
