> France is preparing for a third weekend of protests, deploying 70,000 security personnel to prevent a repeat of the violence on October 17. Shops have boarded up as authorities warn of further clashes, with masked demonstrators during Halloween adding to concerns. What began as anger over living costs and poor school conditions has expanded to demands for greater civil liberties and the right to protest. With presidential elections six months away, security has been tightened and demonstrations restricted in several cities.
