> Russia and the United States vetoed each other's Security Council proposals to extend the Western Sahara peacekeeping mission, leaving its mandate set to expire on October 31. The US plan made Morocco's autonomy proposal the sole basis for negotiations and reduced the mission's military component; Russia proposed renewal on the existing terms.
