> Naval and air units of the PLA Southern Theater Command patrolled the territorial waters and airspace around Huangyan Dao on Friday. The command called the patrols a necessary response to what it described as Philippine rights violations and provocations, and said they had been stepped up since early October. China Coast Guard units also patrolled nearby on Friday.
