> Following a visit by US ambassador Mike Huckabee to the nearby Israeli settlement of Shilo, Palestinian Americans in Turmus Ayya have seen attacks rise alarmingly. A scorched strip of land, marked by Molotov cocktails and a boulder, separates Palestinian homes from Israeli flags and is presented by settlers as their territory. Around 80% of Turmus Ayya’s residents are US citizens, many from New York, Chicago and Paterson, New Jersey. They return in summer with their children to experience Palestinian culture and learn Arabic, while some display US flags as proud American patriots.
