> After more than 30 years under pressure, Novaya Gazeta announced it was shutting down, following an order to leave its Moscow office and the loss of its ability to collect donations. Journalists, writers, and public figures mourned the closure, with some accusing Russian authorities of killing the paper and praising its journalists’ defense of free speech and democratic values.
