> The heatwave that affected western Europe last week is moving east, with much of central and southern Europe facing extreme temperatures approaching 40C. Budapest and Vienna are forecast to reach 37C, while countries risk an energy crunch. Hungary has been forced to shut most of its only nuclear power plant because falling Danube levels have made safe cooling impossible. The plant, which supplies a large share of the country’s energy, is expected to power down completely later this week as the river continues to fall.
