> Taiwan's local elections are set for 28 November, with the New Taipei mayoral contest seen as pivotal. The DPP's Su Chiao-hui is facing KMT candidate Lee Chuan. Polls had been close, but a survey released on 13 October put Su at 43.1%, ahead of Lee on 30.0%. The pan-blue alliance, controversies involving the candidates and the popularity of incumbent mayor Hou Yu-ih may shape the race.
