# Binance says $2.54bn in crypto funds frozen amid ‘potential security issue’

> Binance said at least $2.54bn in funds had been frozen while it investigated a “potential security issue”, and suspended deposits and withdrawals as a precaution. The exchange said users’ funds were safe. Founder Changpeng Zhao said it appeared Binance had been hacked; Bitcoin fell about 5 percent, below $77,000, after the incident.
