# Interest on Ukraine loans to cost EU budget at least €35 billion

> The European Commission says the EU’s next seven-year budget must provide at least €35 billion to cover interest on old loans to Ukraine. The bill could reach €41.9 billion if interest rates rise by one percentage point. The EU has lent Ukraine €171 billion since 2014, mostly after 2022.
